Breast Cancer |
| For
help with breast self examination, you can rely on Guardian. |
| The
best time to self examine your breasts is 2-3 days after your period ends. Make
sure you make self examination a regular practice. And please if you notice
any change at all, see your doctor immediately. |
| Step
1 - The Mirror Check with both hands at your sides, check your breasts in
the mirror. Look for any change in shape, size or colour in the breast and the
nipple. Also squeeze the nipple to see if there is any discharge. Next look
for any changes when your hands are on your hips and then when they are behind
your head. |
|
| Step
2 - The Shower Check First put your left arm behind your head and using
the flat part of your fingertips use small circular movements to examine your
left breast for anything unusual. Check the surface by feeling lightly, then
press quite firmly, feeling for anything deeper. After you have felt the whole
breast, move up to the collarbone and out to the armpit. Now check your right
side using the same process. |
|
Step
3 - The Bed Check On the bed, lie on your left side with your knees bent
and roll your shoulders back so they are flat. Next place your right arm under
your head. Examine your right breast using the method described in the shower
check. Afterwards, roll onto your right side and check your left breast.
If you notice any change at all, see your doctor immediately. |
