Head lice How do I know if my child has head lice?
Your Guardian solution:
- You have to LOOK for head lice.
- Use a magnifying glass in strong light, or apply conditioner to your child’s hair and comb sections with a fine tooth comb.
- Wipe the combings on a paper towel and look carefully for lice or eggs.
- Head lice are about the size of a sesame seed, have six legs, and are grey-white in colour.
- The eggs (nits) are like tiny grains of sand stuck to the shaft of the hair.
- If lice or eggs are found, your child’s hair should be treated.
What is the best way to treat head lice?
Your Guardian solution:
To get rid of head lice, all lice and nits must be removed from the hair – and this can take time and persistence!
An effective treatment may involve a conditioner and fine tooth combing technique, the application of a head lice solution, or a combination of both.
Should I treat everyone in the family?
Your Guardian solution:
It is important to check each family member carefully, but only treat those with head lice or nits.
Ask your Guardian pharmacist for advice about available treatments, combing techniques and conditioners.
