Cold Sores

How do I know if I'm getting a cold sore?
A cold sore is a tiny cluster of red, fluid filled blisters around the mouth or nose. Before the blisters appear there may be a tingling, burning or itching sensation.

Is the infection easily spread?
Yes, cold sores spread easily. From the time it tingles until it heals, do not touch the blisters - and no kissing!  Wash your hands frequently. Avoid sharing utensils, food or towels.

Can I prevent a cold sore attack?
Once you’ve had a cold sore, the virus can be triggered again by stress, illness, sunburn or injury.  Eat and sleep well, and remember to SLIP-SLOP-SLAP. Talk to your local Guardian Pharmacist about other ways to prevent the severity and frequency of an attack.
