KNITTING FOR GOOD
This year our Guardian Angel Knitting program turns 21 and to celebrate we are continuing to build on what we’ve done for the previous 21 years – Knit For Good! We couldn't be prouder of our Guardian Angels. Your continued support, time, energy and care have brought smiles and warmth to over 2 million people Australia wide.
Australia’s homeless population has grown by almost 14% in the last 5 years; against population growth of 9% over the same period. As we approach winter, that means more than 116,000 Australian’s will find themselves without a safe, dry place to sleep.* That’s why we are so proud to announce that our partnership with St Vincent de Paul Society (Vinnies) will continue for a third year.
Vinnies ensure that your knitted items are either passed on to those who need them most or proceeds from their sale allow Vinnies’ 60,000 volunteers to continue to make a difference in the lives of disadvantaged people. We are inviting you to take part in the Guardian Angel knitting program this year, by knitting or sewing garments and dropping them in at your local Guardian pharmacy. Working as a community and in partnership with Vinnies, we can provide dignity and comfort for those most vulnerable.
HOW YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE
- Become a Guardian Angel in 2019.
- Choose one or multiple patterns from inside our knitting pattern book.
- Follow the pattern instructions to produce a completed item.
- Donate your finished product to your local Guardian Pharmacy.
Note: We recommend working with neutral colours that may appeal to everyone. Your local Guardian pharmacy will then deliver this to one of the Vinnies warehouses.
We would like to thank our major partner St Vincent de Paul Society for their compassion, enthusiasm and humanitarian involvement with this program. We would also like to thank our transport partners for their generous support helping us get all knitted items into the hands of those who need them the most.
Lastly, we would like to thank you. Yes you! For all your hard work and contributions to this program. Without all our Angels we would not be able to provide the care and support to those less fortunate. Your efforts are breaking down barriers, one step at a time.
