FIRST AID FOR BURNS

Did you know that 90% of Australians don’t know how to treat a burn correctly?1


There are many myths about the correct first aid treatment for a minor burn, including the use of ice, butter, lavender oil or toothpaste. With the tips of your Guardian pharmacist, you will be prepared for any burn emergency.


Remove

Remove yourself from any danger. Remove any clothing or jewellery from burned area to allow effective cooling of the burn


Cool

Rinse the burn under cool running water for 20 minutes. If water is not available, use a hydrogel Do not use ice, butter, toothpaste, creams or ointments as these may make the burn worse


Cover

For minor burns, cover with a burn hydrogel to help relieve the pain Cover with a clean dressing
